A living room with a lot of pictures on the wall.

history of the commercial hotel

This is the oldest standing building in Cotter, built in 1903 during the arrival of the White River Railway. If these walls could talk!  They can't talk, but they can show!  Browse the historical décor - photos, artifacts, memorabilia - on the walls of the hotel that we've collected, uncovered and procured. Become one of the visitors to stay and experience the history of Cotter just like the guests of the early 1900s.

As you explore, you may notice a few squeaky or uneven floors—these are part of the building’s original character. While the recent renovation involved extensive updates and improvements, we chose to preserve some of the building’s quirks as a nod to its rich past. We believe these details add charm and serve as a reminder of the many stories this place holds. After all, if we were over 120 years old, we’d be a little crooked and creaky, too!

Our Story: The History of Potter Block Properties

Coming Home and a New Vision

After completing an incredible 23-year career with the U.S. Army, my wife, Kammi, and I were drawn back to our hometown. This community had loved and supported us for many years, and we felt a strong desire to contribute to its revitalization.

Our journey began when we acquired "Potter Block," a historic building with immense potential. We envisioned breathing new life into this landmark, and by extension, into the street and our beloved hometown. The building, unfortunately, had suffered from years of deferred maintenance, and time had certainly taken its toll. However, armed with a clear vision and an unwavering passion, we embarked on what has truly been a labor of love.

Expanding Our Impact

As the restoration of Potter Block neared completion, our commitment to revitalizing our town grew. We took on additional projects, varying in size and scope, all with the goal of doing our part to enhance the community we grew up in and cherish.
